Joseph Raposo walked down the beach. His hands were stuffed in his pockets and his eyes were scanning the area for any girls worth checking out. It was winter, and it was starting to get late, so there weren't very many around. All the same, Joe had wanted to take a walk along the beach to at least do something other than be at his house. All his friends had been busy, so he didn't have any plans for the night.
Joe wasn't all that in the mood for hanging out with his friends anyway. The thought of his parents getting a divorce was thick in his mind. He didn't care as much as his other siblings seemed to, but he still didn't really want them to split up. As annoying as they were, and as much as he wanted them to leave him alone, he didn't want them splitting up.

Kiara Jonas was up the beach a little, leaning against a palm tree. She was gazing out at the crystal clear water. For some reason, she had the urge to run our and splash around in the water. She chuckled at the thought. It was a silly notion. She was too old for stuff like that now.
Kiara's smile faltered slightly. Sometimes she missed the innocence and carefree attitude of being a child. You didn't have any responsibilities and didn't have to worry about the problems of the world. You didn't have to worry about evil organizations threatening to destroy everything you and your family had worked for.
Kiara shook her head. There was nothing she could do about that right now. She could just continue doing everything she could to support her mother. That would have to be enough for now. Kiara walked up to the water. She knelt down and passed her hand through the water. It felt cold against her skin.

Joseph noticed Kiara and couldn't help but smirk slightly. Maybe a girl could take his mind off his parents. Maybe it'd be good for him. He strolled over toward the girl and frowned slightly when he realized how young the girl was. He ran a hand through his hair and sighed. That wasn't going to work.

Kiara stood up when she thought she had heard something. She turned and saw Joseph standing a little ways away from her. "Hello," she said. She didn't think anyone would be out on the beach at this time and day. She looked over Joe, taking in his appearance.

"Hey," Joe replied and ran a hand through her hair. Now looking at her, he realized she was probably a freshman. Maybe she wasn't so young.

Kiara smiled slightly. "I'm Kiara. Kiara Jonas." She held out her hand to Joseph.
