O.o so you don't call the shoes you wear for gym anything special? Not even like athletic shoes?
Otherwise no one would know what you're talking about...Like at my old school my gym teacher was huge on you having tennis shoes for class. You gotta have a name for them...There's a name for every type of shoe under the sun.
Do you hear people around you ever say tennis shoes or sneakers? O.o

O.o if i had to wear shoes for gym, then i'd just call them gym shoes. and if i had to play tennis, then i'd call them tennis shoes. and yes, most people here do understand what i mean, seeing as everyone else here does the exact same thing. we don't have special names for every sort of shoe out there, we just call them shoes. and no, i've never heard anyone call them tennis shoes or sneakers. (:

tennis shoes. it's what everyone calls them out here. we have a name for every shoe in the south. there's nothing different about tennis shoes for tennis and tennis shoes for like, volleyball. it's all the same and there's no different type of shoe for like, tennis than anything else. there's spikes for track, cleats for soccer, etc, but there's no such thing as tennis shoes for tennis...just saying. gym shoes and sneakers just sounds retarded no offense (:

(: ah... like special names i mean as in flats, wedges, heels, clogs, boots, flip flops, sandals, stilettos, tennis shoes, etc. tennis shoes. it's what everyone calls them out here. we have a name for every shoe in the south. there's nothing different about tennis shoes for tennis and tennis shoes for like, volleyball. it's all the same and there's no different type of shoe for like, tennis than anything else. there's spikes for track, cleats for soccer, etc, but there's no such thing as tennis shoes for tennis...just saying. gym shoes and sneakers just sounds retarded no offense (: yeah, the word tennis shoes came from back when they first came out. people didn't used to wear them just to wear them like now. they just invented them for tennis and so they were called tennis shoes. then they evolved to be a normal day to day/sport to sport thing so some parts of the country still call them tennis shoes.... and i do agree that sneakers sounds weird XD

we call them both tennis shoes and sneakers here. they both mean the same thing in our perspective though. it's just people mix it up and call them whichever one they want too. i grew up using the term sneakers. though.
