Again, of course I have to say something. How can I not? I'll be nice though. I promise. I'd just like to say farewell and welcome.
First of all, I'd like to say goodbye to President George W. Bush. It's been an excellent 8 years. Even if you disagree with his politics, you have to see that he truly is a great man. I don't know many people who could have gone through the kind of pressure he must have experienced. Being president is hard enough as it is. But to have something like 9/11 happen during your first year in office? Anyone who can get through that deserves a lot of respect.
And let's face it, Bush has done a great job protecting us from terrorists. There hasn't been one terrorist attack since 9/11. That's not because they haven't been attacking. You can find a list of many attempted attacks that were stopped because of the Patriot Act and other measures Bush has taken to protect us. He alone had what it took to stand up to the terrorists. That's why they fear him so much. He's been fighting for your right to protest against him.
I won't got into the War in Iraq much. Just know this: we have won. The surge in July worked. Why haven't we heard anything int he news about this? Because the liberal media doesn't want to admit that Bush did something right. No matter if you believe the war was just or not, it is over and we have won. If you ask me, that's a cause for celebration. Bush should get praised for this accomplishment.
It amazes me how much hate Bush can take and still stand by his principles. It takes great courage to stand strong and not strike back at your enemies. This alone should be enough for him to earn the respect of every American. He has never backed down and has always stayed true to what he believes in. He never once complained or broke down. After enough time passes, people will look back and see him for the amazing president he was. There aren't many men like him out there anymore. He will be greatly missed.
And now I have to give my welcome to President Barrack Obama. It's the right thing to do. I refuse to become a hypocrite. I will give him the respect he deserves as president. Like I said before, he hasn't done anything yet. So until he does I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Once he actually does something, then I'll criticize him. But I won't spit out irrational hate; I'll give constructive criticism. He will be my president, but I just won't agree with his policies.
I will, of course, resist everything that Obama does that goes against what I believe in. So, basically, I'm going to forgive him. Forgiveness means you let go of the hate for someone for something they've done, but you still stand strong against them when they're in the wrong. This is what loving your enemies means. I am not an expert at this, but I will continue praying that God will give me the means to accomplish this. I don't want to become bitter with hate. Love builds while hate only can destroy. I resist out of love, not hate.
So, in short, welcome, President Obama. I respect you because I am an American, but I am not your friend. I am ready to fight when needed. Bring it on.
